NORTHERN CORRIDOR PROTOCOL
2018. WOOL CARPET
Abstracted from an existing government document this work takes its form from the rituals of discussion and negotiation. The toing and froing of the discursive convention in order to determine a final consensus. It takes the first word, capitalised and bold, from each of the 18 PROTOCOLS in the ‘NORTHERN CORRIDOR TRADE AND TRANSPORT AGREEMENT’ and gives them singular significance.
The highlighting of these words in this textile work, is a recognition of their unintentional yet beautifully poetic syntax. I re assign them to the negotiations we have with with others everyday, be it children, work or authority. Creating a poem of procedure for the everyday.
Read from bottom top top you are invited to travel the length of the carpet, to listen, become aware, acknowledge and reiterate. Find agreement where so often we can not.
