‘Side to Middle’ 2023 is a  performance work that brings together. performative action and female labour.

IMG_1263.jpeg

To be performed facing the sea, this timed action challenges female futures with the flying of a flag. Created from on old sheet that has been side to middled, the sheet is stitched across its entirety with herringbone stitch that creates a chain link fence effect across the surface.

Side to middling is the old fashion practice of resewing the outside edges of a torn sheet to the middle so extending its usefulness.

This action speaks of unrecognised female labour and the turning of ones self inside out to for fill roles traditional roles.
